Class Experience

Feel the pulse of Korea's four traditional percussion instruments. This hands-on class welcomes newcomers to learn the rhythms and energy of samulnori from the very first beat. Instructor Bio 이경아 Kyoung Ah Lee is an accomplished performer and teacher of samulnori, the vibrant tradition of Korean percussion. A graduate of Baekje Arts University, she trained with the Gyeonggi Province branch of Kim Duk-soo's celebrated Hanullim ensemble — a lineage that connects her to one of the most revered names in Korean traditional music. Her performance career includes membership in the "Kkokdu" troupe at the Suwon Cultural Center, and she has served as director of the Sorihyang Korean music institute. In Los Angeles, she held the role of deputy director of the samulnori team TEAM NORI, and she currently directs TEAM Oolim at the Korea Town Art Center, a traditional art she is committed to sharing with students for generations to come.
